Overview

Reimagining the PDP Control Hub for Swarm II

When PDP was acquired by Turtle Beach, the team began transitioning the existing Control Hub experience into the new Swarm II ecosystem.

I designed an entirely new Swarm II edition of the Control Hub app from end to end, working alongside the product and engineering teams as new controller features were developed in real time.

The goal was to create an experience that felt cohesive with the new Swarm II look and feel while making it easier for users to customize, manage, and personalize their controllers. Since many of these features were still being developed, the design process was constantly evolving alongside the product itself.

What I did

From understanding users, to exploring the possibilities

I started by getting a better understanding of what users needed from the app and where the existing experience was falling short. Through user interviews, surveys, Crazy 8s, and user personas, I gathered insights that helped shape the direction of the new experience.

From there, I moved through low-fidelity to high-fidelity designs, using A/B testing and user feedback to continuously iterate. As new controller features became available, I designed the corresponding experiences within the app and worked closely with the product team and software engineers to make sure the designs were both useful for users and feasible to build.

I was constantly balancing user needs, product goals, and technical constraints, while adapting the experience as the product evolved.

Impact

Designing alongside the product

As the sole designer on the project, I worked hand-in-hand with product, engineering, and other teams to help bring the new Swarm II experience together. My work contributed to creating a new app experience that could support the upcoming generation of Turtle Beach controllers and their expanded customization features. More than just redesigning screens, I helped establish how users would interact with and personalize the new Swarm II ecosystem.

Reflection

Learning to design in a constantly moving space

This project was one of my favorite internship experiences because I got to be involved from research through implementation. It pushed me to trust my decisions, ask more questions, and advocate for the user while balancing product and engineering needs.

Most importantly, I learned that good design doesn’t happen alone. Working with such a supportive team showed me how much stronger an idea becomes through collaboration, feedback, and constant iteration.

Thank You!

To my turtle beach team <3

I was incredibly lucky to work with a team that supported me throughout the entire process. Everyone was willing to answer my questions, talk through ideas, and give me the space to explore.

I also really loved the team I worked with. Everyone was incredibly supportive and always willing to answer questions, talk through ideas, and push me to explore new solutions. It taught me that good design isn't something you create alone, it's something that becomes stronger through constant collaboration, feedback, and iteration.

Thank you to everyone who trusted me with this project and helped me grow as a designer. ♡
